cell phones increase children's risk of brain cancer by five times!!!

Joni Brice - Sunday, September 21, 2008
A fivefold projected increase in brain cancer is predicted for kids who use cell phones or mobile phones.  This is not good news--but you have the power to do something about it--to take action. Now.  Right now.  IF you're adolescent or teenager has a cell phone, immediately insist that they either use the speakerphone, text or the  use the ONLY handsfree headset that is proven to STOP the radiation from getting up to their brains. AND read the other tips on this site from Protect Your Family.  This is serious and medical research is proving it:  Here's the excerpt from September 21 London Independent reporting on a recently released medical study showing that kids using cell phones will have five times the increased risk in brain cancer and tumors from using cell phones and mobile phones at an early age:
The Swedish research was reported this month at the first international conference on mobile phones and health.

It sprung from a further analysis of data from one of the biggest studies carried out into the risk that the radiation causes cancer, headed by Professor Lennart Hardell of the University Hospital in Orebro, Sweden. Professor Hardell told the conference – held at the Royal Society by the Radiation Research Trust – that "people who started mobile phone use before the age of 20" had more than five-fold increase in glioma", a cancer of the glial cells that support the central nervous system. The extra risk to young people of contracting the disease from using the cordless phone found in many homes was almost as great, at more than four times higher.

Those who started using mobiles young, he added, were also five times more likely to get acoustic neuromas, benign but often disabling tumours of the auditory nerve, which usually cause deafness.

By contrast, people who were in their twenties before using handsets were only 50 per cent more likely to contract gliomas and just twice as likely to get acoustic neuromas.

Professor Hardell told the IoS: "This is a warning sign. It is very worrying. We should be taking precautions." He believes that children under 12 should not use mobiles except in emergencies and that teenagers should use hands-free devices or headsets and concentrate on texting. At 20 the danger diminishes because then the brain is fully developed. Indeed, he admits, the hazard to children and teenagers may be greater even than his results suggest, because the results of his study do not show the effects of their using the phones for many years. Most cancers take decades to develop, longer than mobile phones have been on the market.

The research has shown that adults who have used the handsets for more than 10 years are much more likely to get gliomas and acoustic neuromas, but he said that there was not enough data to show how such relatively long-term use would increase the risk for those who had started young.

He wants more research to be done, but the risks to children will not be studied in the MTHR study, which will follow 90,000 people in Britain. Professor David Coggon, the chairman of the programmes management committee, said they had not been included because other research was being done on young people by a study at Sweden's Kariolinska Institute.

He said: "It looks frightening to see a five-fold increase in cancer among people who started use in childhood," but he said he "would be extremely surprised" if the risk was shown to be so high once all the evidence was in.

But David Carpenter, dean of the School of Public Health at the State University of NewYork – who also attended the conference – said: "Children are spending significant time on mobile phones. We may be facing a public health crisis in an epidemic of brain cancers as a result of mobile phone use."

Thank you, check back often and stay healthy!!

Cell phones/infertility emfs can hurt fertility--oh no!

Joni Brice - Sunday, September 21, 2008
This just in--the latest issue of Fertility and Sterility(a medical journal) has just published a study on how emfs effect sperm.
Basically, here's a recap:  Sperm count decreases as cell phone use increases.  Oh no!  The results we're not completely clear, but  they conclude that one possible culprit could be the energy generated by a cell phone. "If they're operating the phone near their waist, it could raise the temperature of the testes slightly," says Ashok Agarwal, Ph.D., HCLD, Director of Research at the Reproductive Research Center at Cleveland Clinic and one of the study's investigators. "A slight increase in temperature could result in a decreased sperm condition."   Now remember--every cell phone gives off emf's --specifically radiation through the radio/microwaves used to establish and send signal.  Dr. Agwari recognizes this and goes on to say,"  . . .another possible explanation is that holding a cell phone near the ear for extended periods of time could expose the hypothalamus -- a region of the brain that helps govern metabolic and autonomic functions -- to excessive electromagnetic energy, possibly affecting the hormones governing sperm production.
Oh dear, two ways that  this unnatural radiation--emf exposure-- we're getting is effecting the way our healthy bodies should work.  But not to worry--too much.  We know what to do:  1. Hook up your phone to a hollowtube, airtube, safe headset that will prevent that radiation from getting close to your head.(which you can get here at emfreview.com  2. Set that phone 2' away from you so that the rest of your body is subjected to less and less exposure.
That way those sperms can swim around in an emf-free enviroment, happy, strong ready to do their part in the  making of healthy happy babies!  Ahhh I  feel better already.  Here's a summary from the Cleveland Clinic

Powerwatch UK: Medical studies on cell phones

Joni Brice - Saturday, September 13, 2008
I am convinced that it's better to be safe than sorry. We're waiting for the time when everyone knows it's not good to be exposed to radiation from a cell phone, a cordless phone, a microwave, a wifi or even emf's from electrical equipment.  Until then, we'll keep you apprised of all the information that's currently pointing us to a smart attitude of reasonable caution.  There's a group in London called Powerwatch.   Powerwatch is a non-profit independent organisation with a central role in the UK Electromagnetic Field and Microwave Radiation health debate. They work closely with decision-makers in government and business, and with other like-minded groups, promoting policies for a safer environmentThey have been researching electromagnetic field effects on health for the last 20 years, and provide a range of information to help the general public understand this complex issue.

They present the research summaries and then they talk about who's protesting the results and why.  It helps you make an informed decision.  There's alot on the site about cell phone and cell phone towers.  I feel more confident then ever that you need to use one of the radiation preventing headsets I sell in the emfreview.com store.

You can also learn about the concerns you should have about your microwave.  I just added a new video demonstrating how three meters work and how they can show you if your microwave is leaking.  Even if it's not, don't stand closer than 3 feet to it when it's on--because some radiation in the form of mircowaves is always getting out.  It's impossible to block them completely.  Check out the meter test  and then take a look at Powerwatch in the UK

emf's and female hormones

Joni Brice - Friday, September 12, 2008
Although here in America, we hear over and over again, that there is no conclusive evidence that the radiation or emf's from cell phones, can hurt us--I find almost daily news from other countries warning us to watch out.  Look at this, posted on a site in Germany--it's a study from China.  To recap: Women exposed to high frequency emfs have a higher incidence of menstrual disorders and a decrease in levels of reproductive hormones.  Another reason to stay away from the microwave, the wireless AND the cell phone--put it on speaker or use a hollowtube air tube headset!  We can stay safe and avoid the mobile phone radiation and FEEL BETTER!!!

emfs from electricity-- electrical wires etc.

Joni Brice - Saturday, August 16, 2008
Okay, there are three kinds of emfs--electrical, magnetic and radio/microwaves.  The big emf's in the news and of concern lately have been the radiation from cell phones.  But there are other emf's to think about and be apprised of--The Aussies and the Europeans are way ahead of us Americans on this one, check out this August 17th article from Australia

Cedars Sinai

Joni Brice - Saturday, August 16, 2008
Okay--one more Dr--a neurologist from Cedars Sinai agrees that kids should not use cell phones without a headset.  He's right--but still so many experts aren't getting the point that it has to be an Airtube or Hollow Tube headset.  The tube of air stops the radiation from getting up to the brain.  It's so simple, it's really quite amazing.  I know it.  I have tried the other headsets--you'll see them in my Product Review section.  Other headsets, even with a ferrite bead just don't work consistently.  I check the radiation with a meter and sometimes it registers even higher than right by the phone itself.  Newsweek reports that Dr. Keith Black is waiting to see the research and holding firm until then--his kids will not use the phone up to their ear: NEWSWEEK

Kids and Cell phones--Not a good combo

Joni Brice - Monday, August 11, 2008
Kids and Cell phones.  Really not a great idea.  I know, I 've got kids too.  It's so wonderful to be able to stay in touch--call me when you get there, call me and let me know when you're coming home, let me talk to her mom,  I'm dropping off the homework you left on the counter . . . etc etc.  BUT, we know the cell phone emits radiation and now we know without a doubt that a child's brain absorbs more of that radiation than an adult brain.  Here's a diagram  posted on CNN. I had to argue with  my girls for years  "USE the speakerphone" and "Where's your headset? Put it on NOW."  But now that the truth is finally coming to  light, they ask me, "Mom, can I give Scott a headset, he really needs one."   Everyone needs one, this comes from CNN: Dr. Ronald Herberman  warned his staff and students to use the cell phone with caution  The university center's director for environmental oncology, Dr. Devra Davis, repeated the warning on CNN the next night."Since cell phones have only been in widespread use for 10 years or so, the long-term effects of their radiation waves on the brain has yet to be determined," she said."Young children particularly need to be careful," she said. "We do not have enough information nor do we have enough time to be sure that cell phones are safe, and there's reason for concern that they may be harmful."Davis's statement sums up the "jury's still out" aspect of this issue. Since cell phones have only been in widespread use for 10 years or so, the long-term effects of their radiation waves on the brain has yet to be determined.

SAR Specific Absorption Rate

Joni Brice - Sunday, August 10, 2008
So many people keep asking me if their particular phone is safe.  They see me use my various meters on say a Blackberry--and the meter goes crazy as it "senses' the radio microwaves-electromagnetic fields or emf radiation.  So, they want to check out there Casio or there Razor.  Well, I can tell you,  every single phone I've measured emits SOMETHING.  They all do.  They HAVE to.  That's how the phones work.  (To stay safe, you can click on Protect Your Family for tips.)
Also, the government tries to help, both the FCC and the FDA are attempting to make sure we stay a bit safer. The FCC mandates that phones sold here in the US stay under a certain amount of SAR Specific Absorption Rate. The FCC says no more than 1.6 is okay.  You'll see it's all very technical as they explain it--(FCC/SAR)  The SAR is used to measure how much RF(Radio Frequency-in this case from your cell phone)- energy the body actually absorbs. They have tons of questions and answers on the FCC RFsafety site.  They even direct you to various manufacturers who post each phones SAR rate and you can check out CNET, they list every phones SAR rate too.  BUT a lower SAR rate STILL means the phone is sending out some radiation.  Yes it's non ionizing, but even non ionizing is proven to affect our bodies! I'll post those details tomorrow.  If you look a little deeper, you'll see that the folks at the FCC and the FDA have gotten together and had a symposium with the National Academy of Sciences to discuss the research about possible adverse effects of cell phone radiation.  They walked away with a 66 page report that acknowledges that there are more research needs and "gaps" in what we really know, particulary  about wireless devices(cell phones, wifi etc) and their effects on "Juveniles, children, fetuses and pregnant women.  Better safe than sorry, use that speaker phone or use a hollow tube headset and make sure you keep that phone OFF your body.  xoxo

5 tips to limit your cell phone risk (CNN.com)

Nate Emerson - Thursday, July 31, 2008
The director of the University of Pittsburgh's Center for Environmental Oncology, and his group recently put out recommendations that we should be using a speakerphone or ear piece. The report says children, who have thinner skulls and developing brains, should use cell phones only in case of emergency.

The Sky is Falling?

Nate Emerson - Monday, July 28, 2008

There have been a people that have been seriously concerned about the possible links between radiation from cell phones and cancers for some time now. One of those people is my mom. Lately, she’s been informing everyone she meets about the possible dangers from this harmful radiation, most of whom had been totally oblivious to the risks. My mom is one of those people.

There are several names for those people: Alarmists, Chicken Littles, Crazies…

The perception is that they’re just trying to cause trouble- I mean, come on, isn’t there enough trouble in the world? Aren’t there enough things to be worried about without then trying to get everyone paranoid about their benign cell phone usage? There are studies that prove them wrong, they’re told. They’re going to give people heart attacks by needlessly stressing them out- No doctors or scientists support us, after all!

Well, today was a big day for those people who are concerned: the head of the prominent Pittsburgh Cancer Center issued a warming to his faculty and staff: limit cell phone use because of the possible risk of cancer.

Ronald B. Herberman, the director of the institute, is not claiming that the research conclusive links cell phone usage and caner. What he’s saying is that there are indications that it could be true, and that it often takes too long to get answers from science, and he believes that people should take action now.

So, one might think… VALIDATION FOR THE CRAZIES!

Finally, a big name in America is courageously stepping out and warning people to be careful. The statement was released today, and there are already 752 related search results on google. I started looking through some of them, and what I found shocked me- in the face of more evidence that there is indeed at least cause for concern, many are simply yelling their denial more and more loudly… and people are buying it!

Look, I’m not an expert . I don’t claim to be. I’m a 19 year old college student. But I have done my research, and I can tell you this: in my opinion, there are too many cases and too many studies and too much building concern to simply dismiss the issue of the dangers of cell phones. I’ve seen the studies, and I’ve heard people raising their voices in alarm. And over those voices of alarm, I hear another voice yelling, “THERE IS NO CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE…”

You know what I’m reminded of? The movie “Thank You For Smoking”. Brilliant movie, if you haven’t seen it. The main character, Nick Naylor, is the face of Big Tobacco. He works for the Academy of Tobacco Studies- an organization backed by Big Tobacco, created to study the links between cigarettes and health effects. In the movie, Naylor bestows the following praise on the center’s head doctor:

“He’s been testing the link between nicotine and lung cancers for 30 years and hasn’t come up with any conclusive evidence. The man’s a genius. He could disprove gravity.”

Obviously, money has something to do with their research and reporting.

And I can’t help but think that there’s a good chance that money might be involved in the cell phone radiation issue. I mean, think about it- the cell phone industry must be one of the most lucrative industries on the planet. How many billions of dollars would be at stake (and likely loss) it was proven that there was a link between cell phone usage and cancer? It would not only affect their sales, but imagine all of the lawsuits that would surely start popping up all over the country… of course they want to keep alarm to a minimum!

I read another blogger calling Dr.Herberman grossly irresponsible for causing such concern when there is no solid data… but don’t you think the truly irresponsible people are the folks who are trying to diminish any suspicions of possible danger? There is data that suggests that there IS cause for alarm! But would we rather ignore all that data and call it biased, and, as one commenter put it, “play Russian roulette with our brains”?

I wouldn’t. Most scientists might claim “no conclusive evidence”, but with a plethora of possible shady motivations backing those studies and the media, I would rather not be a lab rat for radiation. It’s not that I want to be a Chicken Little and find problems where none actually exist, I just think that the wise thing to do would be to keep my mind open and questioning, and take the precautions that I can to minimize danger.

Everyone laughed at Chicken Little in the fable… but what if they sky actually had been falling?

Better safe than sorry.
